Caroline Morgan, now 53, from Derby, Derbyshire, has welcomed twins after investing £22,000 in six rounds of IVF. She had always dreamed of being a mother but felt it was never the right time until she met her fiancé Richard at 44.
A Long-Awaited Dream
After two years of trying to conceive naturally without success, Caroline and Richard sought private treatment at a Spanish clinic, where she was diagnosed with endometriosis. The first three IVF cycles failed, followed by two chemical pregnancies. On her fifth attempt, she conceived but miscarried at six weeks.
With two frozen embryos remaining, the couple decided on a sixth cycle. They were stunned to learn they were expecting twins. Caroline gave birth to a 4.5lb boy and a 4lb girl at Royal Derby Hospital.
Challenges of Older Motherhood
Despite her joy, Caroline struggled with the postpartum period, lacking a support network as her family lived far away and her friends were at different life stages. She launched the podcast Motherhood in Stereo to connect with other parents, which helped her feel less isolated.
Caroline says, "The key message for me is this – there's no timeline to motherhood. I want to tell people there is hope and don't give up."
