JetBlue Cuts 11 Routes to Boost Florida Focus After Spirit Exit

JetBlue has announced plans to eliminate 11 'underperforming' routes this summer as part of a strategic shift to reallocate resources and expand its focus on flights to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The move aims to capitalize on the market gap left by Spirit Airlines' recent cessation of all operations, allowing JetBlue to meet increased customer demand in South Florida.

Route Cuts and Airport Closures

The cuts will result in JetBlue ceasing all operations from New Hampshire's Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, and also impact several routes from Hartford, Connecticut; Providence, Rhode Island; and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. Affected routes include flights from Manchester to Orlando, Fort Myers, and Fort Lauderdale; Hartford to Tampa; and multiple international and domestic routes from Newark, among others.

Customer Impact and Compensation

JetBlue acknowledges the decision is 'disappointing' for some travelers but states it is necessary to support growth in Fort Lauderdale. Impacted customers will be offered full refunds or alternative flight options. The airline is also expected to expand service from Fort Lauderdale to meet the demand previously served by Spirit Airlines.
