A significant fire tore through a three-storey apartment complex under construction in southeast Denver on Friday evening, prompting a massive emergency response.
Major Emergency Response
More than 100 firefighters were deployed to battle the large blaze, which officials described as a major incident. Division Chief of Operations Robert Murphy stated that crews were still working to extinguish the flames more than two hours after the fire began.
"It's major," Murphy said. "I can't tell you the last time in Denver we had a three-alarm fire this big." The fire department confirmed there have been no reports of injuries.
Road Closures and Evacuations
The building's location next to a major thoroughfare led to significant disruption. The Denver Police Department announced the temporary closure of the road in both directions via a post on the social platform X.
Due to intense heat radiating from the apartment complex fire, some residents of a neighbouring building were advised to evacuate as a precautionary measure.
Wider Impact and Shelter
The blaze caused considerable collateral damage. The Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management reported on X that the incident had led to significant power outages in the area.
In response to the disruption, officials opened a temporary overnight shelter at an event centre in the nearby city of Glendale to assist those affected.
