A homeowner's routine attic exploration turned into a spine-chilling discovery when he found an entire hidden house concealed behind a fake wall, describing the experience as something straight out of a horror film. The man, who purchased the historic property knowing it had previously been a shop and later a church, never anticipated stumbling upon such eerie remnants tucked away in his loft.
The Creepy Crawl Space Discovery
Upon venturing into his attic for the very first time, the owner encountered a narrow crawl space no greater than two metres in height. Noticing a small gap in the ceiling, he navigated through the cramped area and was stunned to find a complete, abandoned house hidden within his own home. In a Reddit post detailing the find, he explained the property's transformation, stating, "It was a store where the owners lived upstairs. But it was turned into a church - I'm guessing the church owners didn't want to bother with knocking it down so they just built around it."
A Time Capsule of Furniture and Belongings
The concealed structure, which the man dubbed the "creepy house," appears to consist of a living room, two bedrooms, and a bathroom. While largely empty, it still contains a small number of pieces of furniture and personal belongings, including an old cabinet, a tire, a hat, a toilet, and a sink. The owner noted, "They laid insulation over the floor boards of the house," adding, "But what's more interesting is the floor to the attic - it's not studs with insulation in between but a hardwood floor covering the whole attic with insulation on top."
Describing the scene further, he reported, "Dirt, lots of dirt, and spiders. Its kind of like it's frozen in time up there. I saw some newspaper pieces, I'll have to collect them and see if I can get a year off it." The discovery has left the homeowner both fascinated and unsettled, with the attic's extreme heat adding to the ominous atmosphere, as he quipped, "I'd guess Satan lives there because it was over 100F up there."
Online Reactions Range from Amazement to Alarm
The vast majority of Reddit users were gobsmacked by the hidden room, with many drawing parallels to horror movies. One user commented, "It's like the past owners kept children up there for a bit. You didn't find any scrolls or ritual figurines up there, right?" Another joked, "Does a clown live there by the name of Pennywise?" referencing the infamous character from Stephen King's It.
Others urged caution, with one advising, "It's honestly amazing you weren't killed by some horror movie s*** when you checked out the first house in the attic, don't press your luck by checking for a house in the attic of that house in your attic." Some even suggested drastic measures, like selling the property, with a user stating, "Just burn it down, sell the property to some young yuppie couple and move across the country. The only way to make it out of a horror movie is to be the couple at the beginning that dumps the haunted whatever on the protagonists."
Despite the eerie findings and alarming suggestions, the homeowner remains intrigued by the historical mystery tucked away in his loft, planning to investigate further by examining the old newspaper fragments to date the hidden structure.
