Sheffield Couple Sells Home in 24 Hours as UK's Fastest-Selling Locations Revealed

In a remarkable turn of events, a couple from Sheffield managed to sell their £257,000 home in just 24 hours, even before the For Sale sign could be erected. This extraordinary sale comes as newly released data unveils Britain's ten quickest locations to sell a property, with Glasgow leading the pack at an average of just 39 days on the market.

A Swift Sale Defying Expectations

Brenda and Craig Salvin, lifelong Sheffield residents, found themselves hastily packing boxes after their three-bedroom semi-detached house was snapped up within a day of listing. The couple, who run a commercial cleaning business, decided to move last year due to the strain of weekly four-hour round trips to visit their daughter and grandchildren in Skegness.

'If anything it's just been too quick,' admitted Mrs Salvin, 52. 'I almost need more time to get my head around it all but given we want to move I can't complain.'

The Salvins' journey began with three estate agent valuations last May. While two agents estimated £170,000 and £190,000, Purplebricks confidently valued the property at £250,000. Skeptical at first due to the lower estimates, the couple proceeded with Purplebricks and listed their home on Monday, January 5.

The 24-Hour Property Phenomenon

By Wednesday, their home was live on Purplebricks' website, and hours later, the first viewer booked an appointment through the app. That viewer immediately offered £7,000 over the asking price.

'We could hardly believe it,' said Mr Salvin, 58. 'We'd accepted the offer 24 hours before they came out to put up the For Sale sign. It was really that quick.'

The sale was finalized before the property even appeared on RightMove, and though it later featured as a 'home of the week' in the local paper, the sold sign was already going up.

A Home Transformed with Heart

The Salvins bought their property nine years ago for £145,000, downsizing after the tragic death of their 20-year-old son Sean in a car accident. They invested over £50,000 in improvements, including a massive kitchen extension with an island and skylight, and significant garden enhancements.

The garden features an 80-yard lawn, a chicken pen, an allotment area, and a converted aviary that became their beloved 'Mucky Pub'—a fully equipped bar with proper pumps, barrels, seating for 17, a toilet, sink, and air conditioning. The bar, topped with 17 solar panels generating £1,200-£1,500 annually, hosted numerous parties and even a wedding reception for 50 people.

'Our bar in the garden has been one of our favourite things about the house and one of the most popular,' Mrs Salvin shared. 'Our grandkids would call it the "Mucky Pub."'

Looking Ahead with No Regrets

Despite friends suggesting they could have gotten more due to the rapid sale, the Salvins are content. 'We're not greedy people,' Mrs Salvin stated. 'If someone offers you over the asking price, that's as good as you can get.'

The couple now plans to live in their caravan in Skegness while searching for a suitable property near their daughter in Ingoldmells over the summer. They describe their Sheffield home as 'a beautiful family home' and feel fortunate that the first viewer fell in love with it, especially since she had already sold her own house and was eager to proceed.
