The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an urgent alert after SPAR UK recalled its Clayton Park Kitchen Chicken & Mushroom sauce due to undeclared soya. The 440g pack, covering all use-by dates, may pose a health risk to individuals with a soya allergy.
Recall Details and Consumer Advice
SPAR UK is recalling the product from customers and has contacted relevant allergy support organisations to inform their members. The company has also issued a recall notice explaining why the product is being recalled and advising customers on the next steps. Anyone who has purchased the sauce and has a soya allergy should not consume it. Instead, they should return the product to the store where it was bought for a full refund.
Understanding Soya Allergy
According to Anaphylaxis UK, soya allergies come in two types: immediate and delayed. The organisation notes that soya allergy is less common in the UK compared to allergies to nuts, milk, egg, and fish. Those who suspect they may be allergic to soya are advised to visit their GP to determine the type of allergy and how to manage it.
Food Allergy Alerts Explained
The FSA explains that sometimes a food product may have a problem that prevents it from being sold. In such cases, the product may be withdrawn from shelves or customers may be asked to return it. Allergy alerts are issued when there is a risk due to missing or incorrect allergy labelling or any other food allergy risk. The FSA works to ensure consumer safety by coordinating these recalls and alerts.
