Aldi Cheapest Supermarket in Wales, Saving £66

Aldi has been named the cheapest supermarket in Wales for June 2026, according to consumer group Which?. A basket of 95 items cost £163.34 at Aldi, undercutting rival Lidl by just £1.58. Lidl's total came to £164.92, or £164.79 with the Lidl Plus loyalty discount.

Price Comparison Across Major Supermarkets

The Which? survey compared prices across 11 major UK supermarkets using a basket of 95 items, including own-label and branded products such as Birds Eye peas, Cathedral City cheddar, and Kellogg's corn flakes. Asda ranked fourth at £190.39, followed by Sainsbury's with Nectar card at £193.30 and Tesco with Clubcard at £194.67. Morrisons with More card cost £198.41, while standard prices at Tesco (£200.63) and Sainsbury's (£203.83) were higher. Ocado cost £214.72, and Waitrose was the most expensive at £229.88—40.73% more than Aldi.

Loyalty Cards Create Price Disparity

Which? noted that loyalty card discounts significantly affect prices. Sainsbury's featured 27 loyalty price reductions in June, allowing it to undercut Tesco. However, shoppers without a Nectar card faced one of the highest bills at £203.83. Reena Sewraz, Which? Retail Editor, said: "While inflation remains stable for now, many households will be worried about prices going up in the coming months. The discounters remain the cheapest supermarkets for everyday essentials, while at the larger supermarkets the massive gap between member and non-member prices shows that retailers are increasingly locking their best value away behind a digital wall."

Switching Supermarkets Can Save Shoppers Over 40%

Sewraz added: "When walking into one supermarket over another – or forgetting your loyalty card – can mean paying over 40 per cent more for basically the same everyday essentials, switching where you shop is still the fastest way to slash your weekly grocery bill." The full ranking of cheapest supermarkets in June 2026 is: Aldi £163.34, Lidl (with Lidl Plus) £164.79, Lidl £164.92, Asda £190.39, Sainsbury's (with Nectar) £193.30, Tesco (with Clubcard) £194.67, Morrisons (with More) £198.41, Morrisons £198.53, Tesco £200.63, Sainsbury's £203.83, Ocado £214.72, and Waitrose £229.88.
