Airbnb Expands Travel Services with New Airport Transfer Pilot Programme
Airbnb Pilots Airport Transfer Service in Global Cities

Airbnb has announced it will trial a new private car transfer service designed to transport holidaymakers directly from airports to their rental properties. This initiative marks the latest expansion of the short-term rental platform into comprehensive travel services, building on its existing offerings like bookable chefs, spa treatments, and guided tours.

Testing New Transportation Options

An Airbnb spokesperson confirmed to The Independent that the company is piloting a scheduled private car transfer service in select cities worldwide. "We are regularly testing new product updates, categories and initiatives, in order to provide the best possible experience for our community," they stated. "As part of that, we're piloting a scheduled private car transfer service in select cities."

Specific details, such as which cities will see the launch first or how far in advance bookings must be made, remain unclear. Airbnb has indicated that more information will be released in due course as the pilot progresses.

Broadening the Airbnb Experience

This transportation pilot follows a major expansion launched by Airbnb in May 2025, which introduced services across ten distinct categories. Beyond airport transfers, guests can now book a wide array of experiences, including chef-cooked meals, massages by certified therapists, personal training sessions, and hair, make-up, and nail appointments.

Additionally, personalised photography sessions to capture trip memories, catering, and prepared meals are available for those who prefer not to cook during their getaway. These services aim to enhance the overall travel experience, with plans to expand into 260 cities globally.

Notable Hosts and Flexibility

Some hosts offering these experiences are renowned experts in their fields, such as Michelin-starred chefs, award-winning photographers, and elite celebrity trainers. Importantly, these services are not limited to Airbnb stays; users can hire a trainer, book a massage, or schedule other activities at their own homes without needing to book accommodation through the platform.

Airbnb experiences also encompass food tours, dining experiences, museum excursions, watersports, wildlife days out, and wellness sessions led by local hosts. Examples already launched include carving marble with a third-generation sculptor in Athens, running five kilometres with Olympian Federico Pellegrino in Milan, and family-friendly Harry Potter tours in London.

Innovative Booking Features

For travellers planning staycations in the UK, Airbnb has recently introduced a "Reserve Now, Pay Later" feature, already popular in the US. This allows guests to book a stay without immediate payment, settling the bill closer to the cancellation period, providing greater flexibility and financial convenience.

As Airbnb continues to diversify its offerings, this new airport transfer service represents a strategic move to become a one-stop shop for travel needs, potentially revolutionising how holidaymakers manage their journeys from start to finish.
