Ben Foster Shoots Penalties in Supermarket to Launch Kellogg's Football Camps
Ben Foster Shoots Penalties in Supermarket for Kellogg's Camps

Supermarket shoppers got a sporting surprise this week when former England goalkeeper Ben Foster took to the aisles for a penalty shootout. The ex-Manchester United, Watford, and Birmingham City star was joined by Barnsley striker David McGoldrick and Oldham defender Will Sutton for the kickabout at a Tesco store.

Football Fever Hits the Aisles

The trio brought football fever to the entire store, from stepping in at the checkout to keep-uppies in the cereal aisle. Some young shoppers even stepped in to take penalties against Foster himself. The event marks this year's launch of Kellogg's Football Camps, which will take place at 73 locations across the country this summer.

Foster, who had a two-decade career, said: 'Taking something as everyday as the weekly shop and turning it into some football fun for families has been brilliant. I remember going to the supermarket with my parents when I was younger, and wishing I was out playing instead, so it's great to show shoppers that they can stock up their cupboards and keep their kids active at the same time.'

Camps Designed to Help Families

Now in their third year, the camps are designed to help keep children fit, active, and entertained during the long summer holidays. Sessions are led by FA-qualified coaches, and there are 39,000 free places open to girls and boys aged five to 15.

According to new research, 50% of parents feel stressed at the thought of the summer 'juggle,' while finding affordable activities (40%) and balancing work and childcare (34%) rank among the biggest challenges. Encouragingly, 45% of parents said making friends and supporting mental wellbeing are key reasons for getting their children involved in sport, alongside reducing screen time (47%).

Dean O'Brien, UK general manager of Kellogg's, said: 'We know the summer holidays can be a real juggle for families, so we're proud to bring Kellogg's Football Camps back for a third year in a row. With over 39,000 free places available, it's never been easier to get involved. Parents can simply pick up a pack of Kellogg's cereal during their weekly shop and turn it into a summer of football for their kids.'
