Spain's Costa Cálida Emerges as Top Budget-Friendly Destination for Summer Getaways
With sparkling Mediterranean waters, golden sandy beaches, and holiday packages starting from just £450, one of Spain's most affordable coastlines has been identified as a prime option for cost-conscious travellers seeking summer breaks. Comprehensive new research has unveiled the eight cheapest coastal regions on mainland Spain, where average prices per person range from £457 to £662, offering significant savings for households grappling with the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
Costa Cálida Leads the Rankings with Unbeatable Value
The study conclusively found that Costa Cálida provides the most economical breaks, boasting an average price of £457 per person. This southeastern stretch of coastline, located in the Murcia region, features over 150 miles of pristine beaches alongside crystal-clear waters. The area is also renowned for housing the Mar Menor lagoon, widely celebrated as Europe's largest saltwater lake.
Dubbed 'the Warm Coast', Costa Cálida enjoys an exceptionally dry climate with approximately 315 sunny days annually, ranking it among the driest regions in Spain. Its shallow and typically warmer waters make it a popular hub for water sports and swimming, while the broader coastline is noted for its relaxed, tranquil atmosphere compared to Spain's more bustling tourist hotspots.
Notably, the waters around Cabo de Palos are particularly famed among diving enthusiasts due to the high concentration of historic shipwrecks resting beneath the Mediterranean seabed.
Other Affordable Spanish Coastlines Detailed in the Study
Securing second place in the affordability rankings was Costa Brava, where average holiday prices were estimated at £471 per person. This picturesque Catalan coastline is distinguished by its rugged cliffs, secluded coves, and charming villages such as Cadaqués. The nearby seaside settlement of Port Lligat once served as the home of surrealist artist Salvador Dalí, adding cultural allure.
Costa Dorada, also situated in Catalonia, ranked third with average costs of £538 per person. This region is famous for its extensive 81-kilometre stretches of golden sand, the historic city of Tarragona, and the adjacent PortAventura World theme park, which features one of Europe's tallest rollercoasters.
Further down the list, Costa de Almería claimed fourth place at £562 per person, followed closely by Costa Blanca in fifth at £566. Costa de la Luz ranked sixth with an average of £574, while Costa Verde came in seventh at £658. Costa del Sol rounded out the rankings in eighth position, with an average price of £662 per person.

The comprehensive study was conducted by TravelSupermarket, analysing all holiday clicks on the price comparison website between 10 April 2025 and 9 March 2026. This analysis encompassed all trip durations, traveller types, board bases, star ratings, and departure points to ensure a robust and representative dataset.
Chris Webber, head of Holidays and Deals at TravelSupermarket, emphasised that Spain continues to deliver reliable value for British travellers despite persistent financial pressures on household budgets. He stated: 'Spain remains one of the most reliable destinations for British holidaymakers seeking value, and with budgets still under pressure, it pays to be a little flexible about where you go.'
Webber specifically highlighted Costa Cálida's standout appeal: 'Costa Calida in particular stands out - it consistently delivers on beaches, weather and facilities, but tends to fly under the radar compared to the likes of Costa del Sol or Costa Blanca, and that's reflected in the price.' This under-the-radar status contributes to its affordability, making it an attractive option for savvy travellers looking to maximise their holiday budget without compromising on quality or experience.
