easyJet Rolls Out Free Greggs Sausage Roll Service on Flights
Budget airline easyJet is launching a special trolley service today, offering free Greggs sausage rolls to passengers on select flights. This promotional event marks the opening of easyJet's new base at Newcastle Airport, with the airline aiming to celebrate its expansion in the North East region.
Destination Dipping Sauces Add Flavour to the Festivities
The free sausage rolls are being served alongside limited-edition "Destination Dipping Sauces," inspired by popular holiday destinations. These unique sauces feature unusual flavour combinations, including Sangria, Tarte Tatin, Harissa Ketchup, Kebab, and Affogato, adding an international twist to the classic British pastry.
The offer is available exclusively today for travellers flying from Newcastle Airport with easyJet. In addition to the in-flight service, easyJet cabin crew are distributing free Greggs sausage rolls in Newcastle city centre until March 25, extending the celebration to local residents and visitors.
Newcastle Base Expansion and Economic Impact
The new easyJet base in Newcastle will operate 122 flights per week, introducing 14 new routes across Europe and North Africa. These routes include destinations such as Antalya, Corfu, Dalaman, Enfidha, Faro, Lisbon, Malta, Nice, Prague, Reus, Rhodes, Rome, Sharm-El-Sheikh, and Tenerife, significantly expanding travel options from the region.
Garry Wilson, easyJet holidays CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "We're thrilled to be launching a new base in Newcastle, driven by strong demand for our flights and package holidays. Partnering with Greggs, a true Geordie icon, felt like the perfect way to celebrate our arrival. Offering sausage rolls onboard and in the streets is our way of thanking the North East."
Community Engagement and Landmark Celebrations
Greggs will be served from a limited-edition easyJet trolley at several iconic North East landmarks, including the Tyne Bridge, St James' Park, and the Angel of the North. This initiative aims to engage the local community and highlight the cultural significance of both brands in the region.
Hannah Squirrell, Customer Director at Greggs, commented, "As a business born and bred in the North East, we're excited to partner with easyJet for this launch. It's a fantastic opportunity for the local community, and we can't think of a better way to celebrate than with a Sausage Roll!"
Airport CEO Highlights Economic Benefits
Nick Jones, Newcastle Airport CEO, emphasised the economic advantages of the new base, noting, "The launch marks a major milestone for Newcastle Airport and the wider North East region. With flights to 22 destinations and over 800,000 seats available this summer, it provides more choice for passengers and delivers substantial economic benefits through job creation and increased inbound tourism."
He added that easyJet's investment represents a significant vote of confidence in the airport and the region, playing a vital role in meeting growing demand for flights and package holidays as the airport prepares for its busiest year on record, with an expected six million passengers.
