Kmart Australia is set to open a massive 'K home' store, offering shoppers a dedicated homewares destination that brings together furniture, storage solutions, home décor, and everyday essentials all under one roof. The retailer is trialling this new format at Box Hill South in Victoria, with doors scheduled to open on Thursday, June 18. The store features 3,100 square metres of customer shopping space.
Distinctive Branding and Layout
What sets the concept store apart is its fresh branding. Kmart's iconic red and blue logo has been replaced by a vibrant orange colour scheme with white lettering. The K home store will look completely different from a traditional Kmart layout, featuring an immersive home environment with room-set displays and curated furniture collections. A sneak peek inside the single-store trial reveals a resemblance to IKEA, with bulky furniture neatly displayed across the floor and samples giving shoppers a better idea of how the pieces look once assembled.
In-Store Exclusives and Affordability
The dedicated homewares store will showcase Kmart's 'online exclusives' in-store for the first time, allowing shoppers to see products before they buy. With rising cost-of-living pressures, K home is designed to make it easier than ever for shoppers to give their space a makeover without breaking the bank. 'At a time when value matters more than ever, this trial is about helping Australian families create a home they love at a price they can afford,' said Kmart Group chief commercial officer Callum Smith.
Testing Ground for New Concept
The Box Hill South trial will act as a testing ground for the new concept, helping Kmart gauge customer response and gain valuable insight into how shoppers respond to a store dedicated entirely to furniture, storage, and home décor. 'K home at Box Hill South gives us the opportunity to bring more of our home range into store and better understand how customers want to shop it,' Mr Smith said. 'The space has been designed differently from a traditional Kmart store, with a more immersive home environment, curated displays, and room-based inspiration to help customers explore the range in a more intuitive way.'
Accessible Home Styling
Unlike a standard Kmart layout, K home brings together a curated home and living range in one dedicated space, making it easier for customers to browse, find inspiration, and shop for everything they need in one place. From room-set displays to a clearer presentation of furniture, storage, and home styling, the format is designed to make Kmart's home range easier to shop, more inspiring to explore, and better suited to how customers plan and furnish their homes. The new concept is part of Kmart's push to make home styling more accessible, with affordable furniture, storage, and décor all under one roof.
