In a remarkable culinary achievement, a London pizzeria has been officially crowned as having the Pizza of the Year 2025 and simultaneously named Europe's best pizzeria outside Italy. Food enthusiasts and critics alike are flocking to taste the celebrated offerings, with many declaring they can immediately understand why this establishment has earned such prestigious accolades.
A Surprising Champion in the UK
While pizza traces its origins back to 16th century Italy, with the modern version emerging in Naples when street vendors began adding tomatoes to flatbreads, the latest global recognition has surprisingly landed right here in the United Kingdom. Most Britons enjoy indulging in a quality pizza occasionally, but few might have anticipated that the world's best pizza would be found on British soil.
Napoli on the Road's Triumph
The honour belongs to Napoli on the Road, an Italian-run pizzeria located in London. Following its designation as pizza of the year in 2025, London food enthusiast Tasmin took to Instagram to share her experience after visiting their Tottenham Court Road Station outlet. She enthusiastically confirmed she could "100% see why" the pizzeria deserved the top awards.
Tasmin sampled the establishment's prize-winning Ricordi d'Infanzia pizza, which features a delectable combination of slow-cooked ragu, grated parmesan, parmesan fondue, fresh basil, and high-quality extra virgin olive oil. "The restaurant itself is also the fifth best pizza place in the world," she revealed in her social media post. "They've just opened up a new spot in Soho, in addition to their existing Chiswick and Richmond locations."
Social Media Buzz and Customer Reactions
Tasmin's Instagram footage showcasing the restaurant and its celebrated pizzas generated significant excitement among her 32,300 followers. One commenter noted: "Heard good things," while another exclaimed: "Yes yes yes – this looks epic." A third follower responded: "What an award! Will have to try on my next trip to London," and a fourth simply confessed they were "drooling" at the sight.
Those who had already dined at Napoli on the Road unanimously agreed the award was thoroughly deserved. One customer declared: "As an Italian myself I can absolutely confirm this! Love Napoli on the Road." Another chimed in with enthusiastic praise: "Napoli on the Road is 10/10."
Official Recognition and Global Standing
Napoli on the Road secured the Pizza of the Year 2025 honours specifically for its flagship offering, the Ricordi d'Infanzia pizza. According to the prestigious 2025 list from 50 Top Pizza, widely regarded as the world's leading authority on pizza, the eatery also claimed the title of Best Pizzeria in Europe for the second consecutive year. This recognition positioned it as Europe's finest pizzeria outside of Italy itself.
The establishment further achieved an impressive fifth place globally among the world's best pizzerias. The ultimate crown for World's Best Pizzeria 2025 was jointly awarded to Una Pizza Napoletana in New York and I Masanielli in Caserta, Italy, making Napoli on the Road's achievement particularly noteworthy within the European context.
The Founder's Inspiring Journey
Perhaps it comes as little surprise that Napoli on the Road was founded by a Naples-born pizzaiolo who relocated to London at the young age of 19. Michele Pascarella originally launched the venture in 2016 as a humble street food operation, serving pizzas from a distinctive three-wheeled Ape Piaggio van at various neighbourhood markets.
Through dedication and culinary excellence, Pascarella has since transformed his mobile concept into a prize-winning restaurant empire. Remarkably, this expansion and success have been accomplished entirely without any backing from outside investors, making the achievement even more impressive within the competitive restaurant industry.
The combination of authentic Neapolitan roots, innovative culinary techniques, and passionate entrepreneurship has clearly created a winning formula that has captured both critical acclaim and public admiration, establishing Napoli on the Road as a must-visit destination for pizza connoisseurs and casual diners alike.
