MSC World Asia Cruise Ship Reveals Asian Art Collection

MSC World Asia Cruise Ship to Feature Extensive Asian-Inspired Art Collection

MSC Cruises has unveiled the artwork that will adorn its latest vessel, the MSC World Asia, set to launch in December. The ship will be filled with Asian-inspired art, reflecting the rich culture, landscapes, and artistic traditions of the continent. Guests will encounter sculptures and installations throughout the ship, including in key areas such as the World Promenade, pool deck, and stairwells.

Dragon Sculpture and Japanese Carps as Centerpieces

A highlight of the artwork is a massive stainless steel dragon sculpture, suspended from the ceiling 10 metres above the World Promenade. Measuring 12 metres in length and nine metres in width, this impressive piece is composed of nearly 700 mirrors and 3,000 LED lights, creating a dazzling visual effect. Additionally, the World Promenade will feature large-scale koi fish sculptures by UK-based artist David Harber, adding to the Asian aesthetic.

Art Installations Across the Ship

In the indoor pool area, guests will be greeted by an art installation designed by artist Elisabetta Milan. Shaped like a water droplet, it widens towards the base to evoke a sense of lightness and fluidity, measuring 150cm in width and 245cm in height. The corridors on each deck will showcase artworks inspired by the ship's deck names, which are titled after Asian cities. These pieces, including work by Vietnamese artist Joan Phan, pay homage to the beauty, culture, and diversity of Asia, with highlights inspired by landmarks such as Mount Fuji and Hạ Long Bay.

Cabin artwork will similarly display Asian landscapes, colours, and natural motifs, ensuring a cohesive theme throughout the vessel. Venues like La Dolce Vita bar, Bubbles cafe, the theatre, and the MSC Yacht Club will feature bespoke pieces created by Swiss art workshop Atelier Le Castel. The Kaito Sushi Restaurant will also include koi fish artwork by artist Raimondo Briata, enhancing the dining experience with cultural touches.

Ship Launch and Fleet Integration

The MSC World Asia will debut with Mediterranean sailings in December, joining sister ships MSC World Europa and MSC World America in the fleet. MSC World Atlantic is currently under construction, and fifth and sixth cruise ships for the World Class series are already in development, indicating MSC Cruises' ongoing expansion in the cruise industry.
