SailLink Doubles Cross-Channel Catamaran Service for 2026 Season

Holidaymakers seeking an adventurous and environmentally conscious way to reach France can now book passages on SailLink's expanded catamaran service for 2026. The sailing ferry operator, which successfully launched its inaugural year in 2025, has announced it will double the frequency of crossings between Dover in the United Kingdom and Boulogne-sur-Mer in France. This marks the second year of operations for the innovative company, offering a unique alternative to traditional air or ferry travel.

Enhanced Schedules and Passenger Experience

SailLink will increase its rotation to daily schedules, catering specifically to cyclists, hikers, and foot passengers. This allows for extreme day trips without the need for extended stays. The company's 57-foot catamaran can accommodate up to 12 passengers per journey, with trips lasting between three to five hours, depending on wind conditions. Onboard amenities include space for bikes, carry-on bags, and pannier bike bags, complemented by complimentary coffee and French pastries once sailing commences.

Environmental Impact and Operational Success

In 2025, SailLink transported over 450 travellers across the Channel, with an impressive 70 percent of those journeys relying solely on wind power via its sails. This approach significantly reduces carbon emissions compared to conventional air travel. Andrew Simons, founder of SailLink, stated, "We have proven that passengers are eager to put adventure back into their journey. This season is about taking that success to the next level. We are standardising our procedures to open this unique experience to a wider audience."

Streamlined Border Procedures and Ticket Information

To ensure a stress-free travel experience, SailLink is collaborating with the UK Border Force and the French Police aux Frontières to implement efficient border checks. With only 12 arrivals at a time at smaller ports, congestion is minimised, allowing for swift processing. Tickets for the sailing season, which runs from April to October, are now available. Pricing includes one-way adult fares (ages 26 and above) at £85, young adult tickets (17-25) at £68, teen tickets (11-16) at £45, and children's tickets at £30.

Future Vision and Broader Implications

Simons added, "Our vision is simple: if we can make low-carbon transport viable today with our current set-up, we pave the way for purpose-built vessels in the near future. We are demonstrating how to harness the Strait's exceptional wind resources for naturally obvious connections." This initiative not only promotes sustainable tourism but also highlights the potential for renewable energy in maritime transport, offering a greener alternative amidst growing environmental concerns.
