Top 7 Trending Travel Destinations for 2026 Revealed by Experts
Travel specialists have identified the seven most sought-after destinations for 2026, offering a blend of luxury, adventure, and cultural immersion. From the sun-drenched shores of Mallorca to the rugged landscapes of Kyrgyzstan, these locations are backed by industry professionals as the year's standout spots.
Mallorca: Spain's New 'It' Island
Luxury travel firm ASmallWorld has designated Mallorca as Spain's premier island destination, ranking it among the top five most inquired-about locations in their forums. CEO Zain Richardson emphasises the island's diversity, noting its bohemian villages, vibrant Palma dining scene, and varied coastline of secluded coves and expansive beaches.
"Local authorities are implementing stricter regulations on party boats, noisy beach activities, and illegal rentals to combat over-tourism and preserve quality of life," Richardson explains. This shift aims to foster a calmer, more authentic tourism experience. The island will see new luxury hotel openings in 2026, including the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra.
The United States: A Landmark Year
While not an emerging destination, the United States offers compelling reasons to visit in 2026. The year marks the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence and the centenary of the iconic Route 66 highway. Additionally, the U.S. will co-host the FIFA World Cup, spotlighting cities like Atlanta, Miami, and Seattle.
Dark sky tourism is anticipated to surge, with prime stargazing locations in Utah, Arizona, and Idaho. A favourable exchange rate for the pound against the dollar and competitive airfares further enhance the appeal for British and Irish travellers.
Mozambique: Bush and Beach Paradise
Tom Barber, co-founder of Original Travel, advocates for Mozambique despite travel advisories for its northern region. "What's happened there is that we've seen a whole country get tarred with the same brush, and people aren't going to Mozambique as much as they should," he remarks.
Gorongosa National Park, revitalised after civil war, has welcomed new lodges following significant conservation efforts. "Mozambique can now be considered a 'bush and beach' destination," Barber states, highlighting opportunities for combined safaris and beach breaks. The country boasts stunning islands and exceptional diving, home to whale sharks, mantas, and sea turtles.
Kyrgyzstan: Central Asia's Hidden Gem
Often overshadowed by Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan emerges as a captivating alternative with its mountainous terrain, ideal for hiking and horseback riding. An upcoming documentary by Alexandra Tolstoy will showcase the country's pristine natural beauty, featuring sites like Köl-Suu lake and the Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve.
Bishkek, the capital, offers a burgeoning food and nightlife scene. Intrepid Travel has introduced a new 2026 itinerary, "Trekking the Tien Shan Trails," a 10-day journey through nomadic trails with stays in traditional yurts, priced from £1,545 per person.
Colombia: Cultural and Culinary Revival
Colombia is transitioning from a backpacker haven to a hub of cultural and culinary innovation, attracting luxury brands. Lonely Planet named Cartagena a top 10 destination for 2026, with the Four Seasons Cartagena set to open in the Getsemaní neighbourhood.
Bogotá and the Medellín region are also gaining attention, with recommendations for Guatape village and El Penol. The country maintains an immersive, authentic atmosphere even for upscale travellers.
South Korea: Riding the K-Wave
South Korea's global influence, from K-pop to skincare, continues to drive tourism interest. Virgin Atlantic will launch direct flights from London Heathrow to Seoul in March 2026, enhancing accessibility.
Jeju-Do, Korea's largest island, offers beaches and lush landscapes as a serene contrast to Seoul's urban energy. "With the K-wave, new flights, and new funky hotels, it's definitely going to push [Seoul travel] along," notes Barber, referencing the upcoming Janu hotel by Aman aimed at Gen Z travellers.
Georgia: Eastern Europe's Rising Star
EasyJet's new route from London Luton to Tbilisi in late 2025, along with additional international flights in 2026, positions Georgia for increased visitor numbers. "It's definitely a fabulous country, it will be popular," Barber predicts.
Tbilisi features grand boulevards, a historic old town, and renowned sulphur baths. Beyond the capital, ancient monasteries like the UNESCO-listed Gelati Monastery in Kutaisi await. Georgia is celebrated for its culinary scene and ancient winemaking tradition, dating back 8,000 years.
