All-night train services are set to launch from next month from Manchester Airport to the city centre, enhancing transport convenience for travellers to and from the city. TransPennine Express (TPE) will introduce a new timetable next month, featuring all-night services to and from Manchester Airport.
Key Changes to Services
The addition of eight new services will ensure approximately one train per hour between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport throughout the day, every day. Alongside the rest of the rail industry, TPE will implement the new timetable from Sunday, 17 May. This initiative aims to improve connectivity for early-morning and late-night passengers, especially those flying in and out of the UK's third-busiest airport.
Additional Stops and Summer Services
TPE will also introduce an extra weekday call at Dewsbury on the 8:05 am Leeds to Manchester Piccadilly service. This new stop is expected to benefit students and commuters travelling into Manchester, offering greater flexibility for early-morning journeys. Furthermore, customers will benefit from additional services during the Edinburgh Fringe festival. TPE will run two extra services per day for revellers from Monday, 3 August, until Friday, 4 September, alongside its regular timetable to support those returning from shows.
Customer Advice
Andrew McClements, customer experience and transformation director at TPE, said: 'Although most of our services are unchanged, we encourage customers to take a moment to check any journeys they make regularly. We're pleased to be introducing services that give customers more choice, added flexibility, and an improved overall experience when travelling with us.' TPE also reminded passengers to check journey information before travelling, as planned engineering work may result in temporary changes to services.
National Rail Timetable Update
The train changes in Manchester coincide with the National Rail timetable update, which occurs twice a year in May and December. The next timetable will start on Sunday, 17 May 2026, and will remain in operation until Saturday, 12 December 2026.
Overnight Services Elsewhere
Manchester is not the only airport to see improved night-time transport. Earlier this month, it was announced that a new overnight train service connecting the west of England with Gatwick Airport will launch this summer. Great Western Railway (GWR) said the trial service will start on 6 June, running between Reading and the airport via Redhill, Reigate, Dorking, and Guildford. The overnight trains will operate along the North Downs Line for 12 weeks on a trial basis.
