Fatal Collision on Sheppey Crossing Claims Woman's Life and Injures Three
A tragic road accident on a key Kent bridge has resulted in the death of a woman and left three other individuals with serious injuries, prompting a major emergency response and an overnight closure of the busy route.
Details of the Late-Night Incident
The severe crash occurred on the A249 in close proximity to the Sheppey Crossing at approximately 11:20 PM on Friday night. According to reports from Kent Police, a grey Kia was involved in a collision with a BMW, leading to a significant emergency services deployment.
Police officers, paramedics, and fire crews all rushed to the scene following the incident. Despite their efforts, a woman in her 30s was pronounced dead at the location. Three other people sustained injuries in the smash and were transported to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Condition of the Injured and Road Closure Impact
Of the three injured parties, a man and a woman were taken to a London hospital where they remain in a serious condition. Another man was conveyed to a local hospital for care. The serious nature of the crash necessitated the complete closure of the A249 road overnight.
The vital route, which serves traffic heading towards the Isle of Sheppey, remained shut for around nine hours before reopening at approximately 8:00 AM on Saturday morning. During the closure, drivers were diverted off the A249 at Key Street and instructed to travel via Sheppey Way and the Kingsferry Bridge as an alternative route.
