The California Highway Patrol in Visalia reported that the massive crash occurred on both sides of State Route 99 in Tulare County, just north of Bakersfield. Emergency services received multiple calls regarding the incident shortly after 8 a.m. on Saturday, as the collision brought northbound and southbound traffic to a complete standstill.
Officer Adrian Gonzalez of the California Highway Patrol described the scene as "carnage," with vehicles overturned, stacked on top of each other, and wedged beneath one another. The crash site was littered with vehicle debris and fluids, with involved parties scattered across both shoulders of the highway awaiting transportation away from the dangerous area.
