Passengers travelling in and out of Manchester are facing severe travel disruption after a person was tragically struck by a train. National Rail has confirmed major delays between Stoke-on-Trent and Macclesfield/Crewe, with services expected to be affected until 7:30pm this evening.
Services Affected
The incident is impacting East Midlands Railway (EMR), Avanti West Coast, and CrossCountry services, including those to and from Manchester Piccadilly. A CrossCountry spokesperson stated: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Stafford and Stockport some lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or diverted."
Ongoing Disruption
Emergency services remain at the scene, and passengers are advised to check their journeys before travelling. This is a developing story, and further updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
