Middle East Conflict Causes Severe Flight Disruptions for Major Airlines
Since the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East, significant travel disruptions have impacted airlines globally, with carriers like TUI, British Airways, and Emirates facing cancellations and reduced flying schedules. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has advised against all but essential travel to the United Arab Emirates, a warning that remains active as of March 25, 2026. Airlines are continuously updating customers on changes, with many maintaining limited operations until further notice.
TUI Monitors Situation and Offers Customer Support
TUI has experienced major cancellations due to airspace restrictions in the region. In their latest update, the holiday provider stated that flights to and from the UK are impacted, leading to delays or cancellations. Customers traveling to or transiting through the UAE or Qatar before April 7 are being contacted by TUI's pre-travel team to discuss options. The company emphasized that safety is their highest priority and they are closely monitoring FCDO guidance, assuring that holidays continue as planned where no travel advisories exist.
British Airways Implements Reduced Schedule and Adds Flights
British Airways has been heavily affected by the ongoing conflict, operating a reduced flying schedule in the Middle East. To mitigate disruptions, the airline has added extra flights between London and Singapore, Bangkok, and the Maldives through March and April, with a third daily flight to Mumbai in May. British Airways cited airspace instability as a reason for the extended schedule reduction and is directly contacting affected customers with alternative options, having already assisted thousands in returning home.
Emirates Maintains Limited Operations Amid Regional Uncertainty
Emirates has announced limited operations due to the regional situation, with a reduced flight schedule remaining in place until further notice. In an update from March 18, still effective, the airline stated they are operating under a partial reopening of airspace and will adjust schedules as needed. Emirates thanked customers for their patience and reiterated that passenger and crew safety is their top priority, not to be compromised.
