Ryanair Flight Forced to Divert to Newcastle After Failed Manchester Landing Attempts

A Ryanair flight operating from Lisbon to Manchester was compelled to divert to Newcastle International Airport on Thursday evening after being unable to land at its intended destination due to powerful winds and adverse weather conditions.

Multiple Landing Attempts and Flight Path Alteration

According to data from the flight tracking service Flightradar24, the aircraft made several unsuccessful approaches to Manchester Airport before ultimately changing course. The plane was observed circling above Manchester and parts of Lancashire before heading northwards towards Newcastle, where it managed to land successfully on its first attempt.

Flightradar24 confirmed the diversion on social media platform X, stating the flight was 'diverting away after multiple approaches'. The pilot's meteorological report cited 'showers and gusty winds' as contributing factors to the challenging landing conditions.

Severe Weather Warnings Across the UK

The incident occurred amidst widespread severe weather alerts affecting large portions of Britain. A 15-hour weather warning for strong winds and heavy rain was in effect, with forecasters predicting gusts reaching up to 70 miles per hour in some areas.

Much of Scotland was under a yellow wind warning until 8pm on Thursday, with meteorological experts anticipating gusts of 50-55 mph across Scotland and England. Coastal regions and areas near elevated terrain were expected to experience even stronger winds, potentially reaching 60-70 mph in isolated locations.

Similar Incident Involving EasyJet Flight

Earlier on Thursday, an easyJet flight from Amsterdam to Edinburgh was also forced to divert due to turbulent weather conditions. The aircraft was redirected to Manchester Airport after declaring a mid-air emergency prompted by winds that exceeded the aircraft's operational limits.

An easyJet spokesperson confirmed: 'Flight EJU7835 from Amsterdam to Edinburgh this morning was required to divert to Manchester due to winds gusting outside the limits of the aircraft. We have arranged onward coach transfers to Edinburgh for customers. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is our highest priority.'

The airline apologized for the inconvenience caused by the weather disruption while emphasizing that passenger safety remained their primary concern.

Operational Challenges During Severe Weather

These incidents highlight the operational challenges airlines face during periods of extreme weather. Both Ryanair and easyJet demonstrated standard safety protocols by opting to divert flights rather than attempt risky landings in unsuitable conditions.

Passenger welfare and aircraft safety remain paramount considerations for airlines when confronted with meteorological challenges that exceed standard operating parameters.
