Vernon Kay Sounds Alarm Over 'Horrendous' M40 Conditions Minutes From His Residence
BBC Radio 2 breakfast show host Vernon Kay delivered an urgent safety warning to motorists during his broadcast, highlighting perilous conditions on a section of the M40 motorway in Buckinghamshire that lies just minutes from his family home.
Traffic Nightmare Unfolds on Southbound M40
During his show on Friday, March 20, the presenter addressed severe congestion that had brought all southbound traffic to a complete standstill between Junction 3 and Junction 2 of the M40. Reports confirmed vehicles were held stationary, creating a hazardous scenario for drivers navigating the area.
Vernon immediately recognised the notorious location, a stretch he frequently discusses due to its reputation for causing significant delays and potential accidents. He emphasised the road's design flaws, particularly a valley where heavy lorries struggle with inclines, often leading to dangerous backups.
Kay's Personal Plea for Driver Caution
The 51-year-old broadcaster issued a heartfelt plea to his audience, stating: "Always. It's the one I always talk about. Come on, kids. We get a lot of regular listeners on the show — that junction there is horrendous. It's a valley, so you get the trucks going down at 55, and they can't get up at 55. It's four lanes, and it causes a massive backlog. Please drive carefully through there."
He further explained that such incidents occur regularly, urging extra vigilance: "It happens all the time. It really does. Be careful in that valley. I hope everyone's alright." Vernon later apologised for interrupting the traffic update but stressed the personal significance of the issue, given its proximity to his residence.
He elaborated: "It's a shocker. Yeah, sorry about that. Sorry for getting involved in that one, but I know exactly where it is because we live just around the corner from it, and we hear it and we see it all the time." Kay continued with practical advice, urging drivers to maintain safe distances: "In that valley, you've got to drive so carefully and stay away from the rear of the car in front or the van in front because it just does happen, as we know on a regular basis. But we do hope everyone's all right."
Life in Buckinghamshire with Tess Daly
The BBC presenter resides in the affluent Buckinghamshire town of Beaconsfield with his wife, television host Tess Daly. The couple relocated to the countryside over two decades ago after leaving London, settling in what is widely regarded as one of Britain's most desirable locations.
They currently occupy an expansive six-bedroom property featuring substantial grounds and premium amenities, including a conservatory kitchen, private swimming pool, and home gym. The generous outdoor area has enabled Tess to fulfil a lifelong ambition of keeping ponies, with paddocks for two Shetland ponies named Honey and Willow.
Sharing the news on Instagram, the former Strictly Come Dancing host wrote: "It's been a lifelong dream of mine to own a pony; and now, after months in the planning, it's finally a reality! Not one but two beautiful new additions to the family; here's Honey and (swipe for) her best friend Willow."
The pair live at the home alongside their daughters, Phoebe and Amber, regularly enjoying their sprawling garden, especially during warmer months. Their presence as recognisable local residents is noted, with frequent sightings in town or at attractions like Bekonscot Model Village and Railway.
