Wizz Air has announced the full network expansion of its WIZZ Class service, effective immediately. The move follows a highly successful trial period at six key operational bases, where passenger demand significantly exceeded initial expectations. The airline is now making the enhanced comfort option available on all routes where it was not previously offered.
Successful Pilot Programme Drives Expansion
The WIZZ Class concept was first introduced on selected flights operating to and from Budapest, Bucharest Otopeni, Warsaw, London Luton, London Gatwick, and Rome Fiumicino. During this trial phase, uptake was particularly strong among business travellers seeking additional personal space and a smoother onboard experience without the premium price tag associated with traditional business class.
What WIZZ Class Offers Passengers
WIZZ Class does not feature a completely redesigned seat. Instead, it cleverly utilises the existing cabin layout to provide enhanced comfort. Passengers who select WIZZ Class are guaranteed a reserved empty middle seat in the first row (specifically seats 1B and 1E). This configuration provides extra personal space and creates a more comfortable environment for relaxing or working during the flight.
As the first row already offers additional legroom, the service amplifies passenger comfort while meticulously preserving Wizz Air's efficient single-class cabin model. This approach allows the airline to offer a premium experience without undertaking costly cabin redesigns or altering its fundamental operational structure.
Inclusions and Booking Details
From February 9, 2026, travellers will be able to purchase WIZZ Class as an add-on during the booking process when selecting either the Smart or Plus fare bundles. The upgraded seats come with a suite of benefits designed for convenience and comfort.
- A reserved empty middle seat in the first row for extra space.
- A complimentary non-alcoholic drink and snack.
- Priority boarding.
- A 10kg carry-on suitcase allowance.
Silvia Mosquera, Commercial Officer at Wizz Air, commented on the expansion: 'After testing WIZZ Class at six of our bases and receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback, it became clear that passengers – especially business travellers – value the extra comfort and space this service provides. Even with the limited initial rollout, demand exceeded our expectations. That's why we're now extending WIZZ Class across the network, giving more customers access to additional room and convenience while staying true to our efficient single‑class model.'
Strategic Positioning in the Low-Cost Market
Wizz Air's strategy highlights a growing trend among budget airlines to incorporate upmarket experiences into their offerings. By simply blocking two middle seats per flight, Wizz Air delivers a more spacious experience while maintaining the high-efficiency configuration that is central to its low-fare promise.
This move aligns with broader industry shifts. In the United States, many low-cost carriers are actively competing with major airlines by introducing premium options. For instance, Southwest Airlines recently announced its transition from open to assigned seating this year, coupled with the launch of new premium seating choices.
JetBlue has already established a successful hybrid model with its 'EvenMore' premium perks scheme, offering early boarding, extra legroom, front-of-plane seats, and complimentary alcoholic drinks and exclusive snacks. In Europe, Ryanair allows passengers to book extra seats for comfort, while easyJet offers certain seats with additional legroom for a fee.
Wizz Air, which operates a fleet of 262 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, is now rolling out this new system network-wide. The expansion of WIZZ Class represents a strategic evolution for the carrier, allowing it to cater to a broader passenger demographic—including cost-conscious business travellers—without compromising its core low-cost, high-efficiency operational philosophy.
