Ramon Logan, a 42-year-old father of four, has died two years after a brutal assault in Oldham following the Euro 2024 final. A murder investigation has been launched by Greater Manchester Police.
Attack after Euros final
On July 14, 2024, Logan watched England play Spain at a local rugby club before heading out for drinks. In the early hours of July 15, he was punched to the ground and violently assaulted on Yorkshire Street. He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition with serious head injuries.
His attacker, Sebastian Jones, 27, of Dickens Street, Oldham, evaded police for a week before being arrested in Bury. He was charged with Section 18 assault and, after a three-day trial, jailed for seven years. This was not Jones' first offence; in 2023, he was part of a pair who blackmailed a mother into paying off her ex-partner's drug debts.
Two-year fight for life
Logan spent two years in hospital fighting for his life. His wife Charlotte, whom he married in 2021, remained by his bedside. She posted online: "There is still a long long way to go so please keep us in your prayers... In sickness and in health baby you got this."
While Logan fought for his life, Jones was found posting on social media from Forest Bank prison, sharing pictures of himself smiling with other inmates, captioned "Laugh Now Cry Later" with a lock and key emoji.
Death and murder investigation
Ramon Logan died on June 30, 2025. A Home Office post-mortem has been conducted, and further reviews are underway to determine the exact cause of death. Detective Inspector Andy Day, from GMP's Oldham district, said: "We have now launched a murder investigation, and are keeping his family updated as we progress our enquiries. We are assessing all available material and will be making further reviews in due course."
Charlotte Logan said in a statement: "It is with a broken heart I announce the passing of my beautiful husband, Ray Logan, on June 30. Ray was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many... Ray never stopped fighting to get better for the last two years, all we can wish for now is that he gets the justice he deserves."
Detective Superintendent Walker, from GMP's Oldham district, previously said of the assault: "The level of violence displayed by Jones was completely unacceptable and cowardly. The victim was defenceless on the ground, and Jones carried out a sustained attack, causing significant injuries which have left a lasting impact on the victim and his family."
No arrests have been made in connection with the murder investigation.
