Charlotte Crosby was overcome with emotion as she opened up about her plans to expand her family following a silent miscarriage. The former Geordie Shore star, 35, appeared on This Morning on Tuesday, May 19, where she tearfully shared her heartbreaking experience with hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley.
Devastating Pregnancy Loss
Charlotte and her fiancé Jake Ankers had been overjoyed to discover they were expecting their third child. The pregnancy was especially meaningful as it meant she would be expecting at the same time as her close friends and fellow Geordie Shore stars Sophie Kasaei and Holly Hagan Blyth. However, during her first scan, the sonographer could not locate the embryo, leading to an agonising two-week wait for confirmation. She ultimately learned she had experienced a silent miscarriage, also known as a missed miscarriage, where the baby stops developing or dies in the womb without the body recognising the loss or expelling tissue. Unlike typical miscarriages, there are often no physical symptoms such as bleeding or cramping, making it detectable only through routine ultrasound.
Emotional Toll and Support
Charlotte recounted the painful uncertainty during the two-week waiting period, saying, "In those two weeks, it was the worst fear." She admitted to worrying about what her body might go through and feeling scared each night. "I would go to bed and think, 'Oh, what if it's going to happen?' I've never had a miscarriage. I was worried about the pain," she explained. Cat Deeley handed her a tissue as she continued, "I've got two young children, so I felt scared and worried about what it would feel like and how I'd cope if my partner was at work. It didn't happen, and I had to go for an operation, but those two weeks were constantly on my mind."
Charlotte also spoke about how the loss affected Jake, saying, "It really affected him quite badly. He was really sad for a long time and would just cry quite a lot. I felt bad for him because I think there needs to be more support for men who go through this."
Hope for the Future
Despite the devastating experience, Charlotte revealed that the miscarriage has not deterred her from wanting more children. She expressed her desire to try for a third baby again, stating, "I would love to try again for another baby. After finding out I was pregnant, I got really excited, and I think it is something that I definitely want."
