A tragic house fire in Kent has resulted in the death of a child, with emergency services working through the night to bring the blaze under control.
Emergency Response to Intense Blaze
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) confirmed that the fire in White Admiral Way, Hamstreet, was fully extinguished on Monday morning. The incident began on Sunday afternoon, with the first crews arriving shortly after 12.10pm to find an intense fire that had spread throughout the semi-detached property.
At the height of the emergency, a significant force was deployed to tackle the flames. Six fire engines and a height vehicle were sent to the scene in the Ashford village.
Ongoing Scene Operations and Casualties
Despite the main fire being out, crews remained in attendance on Monday. Two fire engines and a technical rescue unit were still at the property, working to make the structure safe by dealing with any remaining hotspots and assessing the building's stability.
The fire service confirmed the devastating human cost of the blaze. A spokesperson stated on Sunday night that one child had died at the scene. Another individual, also a child, was taken to hospital for treatment. The conditions of those involved have not been further detailed.

Ann Millington, Chief Executive of Kent Fire and Rescue Service, expressed the service's profound sorrow. "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with everyone affected by this tragic incident, especially the child's loved ones," she said.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is now ongoing. Fire investigators will work to determine how the blaze started in the property on White Admiral Way.
