Police have launched a major investigation following a violent, targeted attack in a County Durham town that left two men requiring hospital treatment.
Violent Morning in Town Centre
The incident occurred in Ferryhill at approximately 10.30am on Wednesday, 17 December 2025. According to Durham Constabulary, the assault was deliberate and involved individuals known to each other.
During the attack, a 49-year-old man sustained eye injuries after an unknown corrosive or chemical substance was thrown into his face. Subsequently, a 44-year-old man was stabbed. The severity of their injuries necessitated immediate medical attention.
Emergency Response and Scene Investigation
The emergency response was significant, with two air ambulances dispatched to the scene to assist the casualties. The area around Parker Terrace in the town centre was sealed off by police as a major crime scene.
Forensic experts conducted detailed inquiries within the cordon, searching for evidence related to the stabbing and the unidentified substance used in the assault.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
In an official statement, a force spokesman emphasised that this was an isolated incident between known parties. "Officers are confident that this was a targeted, isolated attack between individuals who are all known to each other and do not believe there is any wider threat to the public," they said.
Both injured men remain in hospital receiving care. Police are now urging anyone with information to come forward to assist their investigation.
