Teen leg amputated after Barry Island stabbing

A teenager has undergone a leg amputation following a stabbing incident on Barry Island during the Bank Holiday Monday. South Wales Police confirmed that the 17-year-old victim, from Cardiff, sustained a serious leg injury and subsequently required a life-changing amputation. He is currently receiving critical care at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

Police investigation ongoing

Detective Inspector Sarah Lee of South Wales Police described the injury as 'absolutely devastating' and stated that the victim's family is distraught. A specially trained family liaison officer has been assigned to support them. The investigation continues, with officers reviewing hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and tracing witnesses.

An 18-year-old man from Riverside, Cardiff, was arrested on the day of the incident on suspicion of wounding with intent and remains on bail pending further enquiries.
