A 17-year-old girl has allegedly been raped by her DiDi rideshare driver after he pulled over mid-trip and climbed into the back seat while she was on her way to work. The teenager had ordered a DiDi ride early Tuesday morning before the driver, Amarbayasgalan Yondonlodoi, allegedly stopped the vehicle in North Sydney and climbed into the rear of the car. Police will allege he then sexually assaulted her.
'A crime scene was established by officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command and an investigation commenced,' a police spokesperson said. Daily Mail understands Yondonlodoi continued to drive for DiDi following the alleged assault and picked up passengers.
Police arrested the 50-year-old on Wednesday after he allegedly dropped off a passenger at Sydney International Airport before being taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping. Yondonlodoi remains in custody after being remanded by the Bail Division Court on Thursday and is expected to reappear in court on July 30.
DiDi said it had suspended Yondonlodoi from the platform as soon as it became aware of the alleged attack. 'The safety of the entire ridesharing community is always our top priority,' DiDi said in a statement. 'All passengers should feel safe and respected during their trip, and we will continue our mission to maximise the safety of our platform for the wellbeing of our passengers. We will continue to work with law enforcement and the regulator in their continued investigations, and provide support to the passenger where needed.'
