Former England women's football star Alex Scott has been linked to a secret romance with a member of One Direction, with details emerging from a live television show in 2019. During her stint on Strictly Come Dancing, presenter Claudia Winkleman revealed that a One Direction star had been supporting Scott, prompting a flustered reaction from the footballer.
Winkleman told Scott, 'We had to find this out for ourselves because you haven't made a fuss about it. You have some major celebrity fans.' When Scott mentioned her football followers, Winkleman added, 'And one of One Direction…' Scott tapped her elbow and replied, 'That was meant to be between us.'
In early 2023, Scott confirmed on The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan that she had been 'chatted up' by a One Direction member, though she refused to name him. She hinted at the identity by mentioning songs by Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan. When host Mo Gilligan guessed Harry Styles, Scott responded, 'Harry's got it going on a little bit.'
In her autobiography How (Not) To Be Strong, Scott wrote about a 'very famous' boyband singer who pursued her during her Strictly run in 2019. She said they shared 'a few kisses here and there' but she ended things to avoid being overshadowed by his fame. 'If you're reading this, Mr Boy Band, now you know why I kept you at a distance,' she added.
Scott, who earned an MBE in 2017, has been in a relationship with pop star Jess Glynne since 2023. She is currently a contestant on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and has spoken about dating both men and women.
