BBC Breakfast presenter Emma Vardy made her return to the famous red sofa alongside Roger Johnson on Sunday following maternity leave, but viewers were left distracted by her outfit choice. The 44-year-old mother of two last appeared on screens on February 1 and gave birth to her son Rocky Beau just days later on February 9. He is a baby brother to her two-year-old son Jago.
Dress sparks viewer backlash
For her return, Vardy donned a floral summer maxi dress with short puff sleeves, which featured pleat detailing and a black lace embellishment around the neckline. However, many viewers felt the dress was too revealing for the early-morning show. Taking to X, one said: "Er, could somebody tell the female presenter on @BBCBreakfast this morning that's a bit too much cleavage on show for this time of the morning."
A second added: "#BBCBreakfast Emma, getting up on a Sunday morning to see serious cleavage." A third said: "Didn't expect boobs in my face this morning on the telly Sunday morning. Have to type and say they are a bit out for the telly, and it's telly not radio, we can see you and them poor Roger will feel awkward."
Some viewers defend Vardy
However, not everyone was offended by the dress. One viewer asked: "Why is complimenting cleavage unacceptable?" Another gushed: "#BBCBreakfast Nice to see Emma Vardy back on TV looking absolutely fabulous." Vardy had announced her maternity leave departure live on air on Sunday, February 1. Co-host Johnson responded: "Enjoy, good luck!" She did not reveal how far along she was, but told followers at the time: "We're welcoming a new addition! Thrilled and beyond excited."
