Charlie De Melo has reportedly decided to leave Coronation Street after five years playing lawyer Imran Habeeb. The actor joined the ITV soap in 2017 and is now looking for new challenges beyond the cobbles.
A source told The Sun that De Melo "loved his time on the soap" but believes "the time is right to try new things." The source added that he will "cherish" his time on Corrie but is "hugely talented and very ambitious and wants to see what else is out there."
De Melo is expected to film his final scenes in the coming months, with producers planning a big exit for the popular character. The storyline is likely to air over the summer.
Recent episodes have seen Imran propose to Toyah Battersby to improve their chances of adopting foster daughter Elsie. Their relationship has been rocky after Imran confessed to sleeping with someone else during Seb Franklin's murder trial—Abi Franklin, a fact still unknown to Toyah. Abi will soon face an agonising decision that could affect Imran's final months on the street.
