Cody Simpson Deletes Song After Fans Link It to Miley Cyrus Engagement
Cody Simpson deletes song after Miley Cyrus engagement

Cody Simpson has removed a deeply personal new song from social media after his followers overwhelmingly interpreted the lyrics as a message to his famous ex-girlfriend, Miley Cyrus. The deletion came just weeks after Cyrus herself announced her engagement to musician Maxx Morando.

Raw Lyrics Spark Fan Speculation

The Australian musician, 28, posted a video to TikTok earlier this week featuring an acoustic performance. In the now-deleted clip, he strummed his guitar while singing raw, self-penned lyrics that listeners quickly believed referenced his past romance with the Flowers hitmaker. The melancholic ballad contained imagery and themes that fans linked to Miley's own songs, Wildcard and Angels Like You.

The emotional fan reaction was swift. One comment read, 'Not after the engagement announcement omg the timing is sick,' while another sympathised, 'That's gotta be tough timing. Feelings don't always disappear just because time passes.' Amid the backlash, many also praised Simpson's artistic vulnerability and urged him to release the track officially.

A Whirlwind Romance Revisited

Cody Simpson and Miley Cyrus dated for around ten months in 2019 and 2020, following Cyrus's divorce from actor Liam Hemsworth. The pair had been close friends for years before their relationship turned romantic. During their time together, they were notoriously inseparable, frequently sharing public displays of affection, loved-up selfies, and even getting matching tattoos.

They announced their mutual split in August 2020, stating they had parted ways to focus on personal growth and individual paths. In a later interview with Stellar magazine, Simpson revealed he felt compelled to end the relationship to pursue his swimming career seriously, a decision that also led to a split with model Marloes Stevens.

Moving On: New Engagements and Artistic Inspiration

Since their breakup, Miley Cyrus, 32, has moved on with musician Maxx Morando and recently revealed they are engaged after three years together. Simpson has channelled his past relationships into his music, citing both breakups as inspiration for his single, Let Go.

'I saw all these realisations that maybe it's time to turn the page in a chapter,' Simpson explained regarding the end of his relationship with Cyrus. At the time of their split, Miley stated on an Instagram Live stream that they were taking time apart to 'work on' themselves but intended to remain friends. The Daily Mail has approached Cody Simpson's representatives for comment on the deleted song.
