Coleen Nolan Responds to Fan Claims About Her Son
Coleen Nolan, the Loose Women star, has addressed persistent claims from fans that she does not like her rarely-seen son, Jake Roche. The speculation arose after Jake made a guest appearance on the family podcast Nolans Uncensored, which Coleen hosts with her other son, Shane Jr, and daughter, Ciara Fensome. During the episode, the family discussed sibling stereotypes and Jake shared his honest thoughts about being left out of the podcast launch.
Fan Reactions and Coleen's Response
In a later episode, the trio read listener messages reacting to Jake's appearance. One message noted, 'Jake makes the most sense,' to which Coleen replied, 'That's fair.' She then directly addressed the comments she often receives, saying, 'No to be fair, it was great having Jake on though wasn't it because everyone's always like, "Do you not like your other son?", it was great having him on.'
Family Reflections on Growing Up
The episode also featured a trip down memory lane as the family reflected on the pressures of growing up, teenage mistakes, and advice for their younger selves. While Shane and Ciara shared stories from their teenage years, they agreed that Jake's experience was markedly different after he found fame in Emmerdale and the band Rixton. Coleen explained, 'Jake, because he moved down South when he was like 14, I don't know if he had much of a teenage experience, but his came much later when he got the fame and he went off the rails.' Shane recalled that period when Jake was around 21, adding, 'Because he went to that school and he was living with dad by himself.'
Comparing Jake's Fame to Coleen's Early Career
Shane compared Jake's rise to fame with their mother's early career as a singer in The Nolans. 'I think he's very much similar in terms of you where he didn't have much of a team,' he shared. Coleen added, 'Well, also, where he lived, he didn't have any mates. They all lived around London so there was never any of that, "Are we all meeting on a Friday?" or whatever.'
Jake's Return to the Stage
Last year, Jake returned to the stage with an autobiographical show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Speaking to The Mirror, he opened up about his mother's support, saying, 'My mum is great, although every time she posts, last year we had a horde of Loose Women fans, which is really lovely, but as the show started going on, I could just sense these really confused Loose fans thinking "What the f**k is he doing?" I'm happy for anyone to turn up, there's definitely been fans of my mum and dad and fans of Rixton, it's quite confronting for an audience member, which is what I wanted the show to be. They've been amazing, as always.'
