Cruz Beckham has praised his famous parents David and Victoria for 'never stifling him' despite him being a 'little s***'. The couple's youngest son, 21, was speaking upon the release of his band The Breakers' new single Yeah Yeah Yeah on Friday.
New Single and Tour
The video for the new single, marking the band's third release, features performance footage from their UK and European tour earlier this year. Cruz said: 'I've always kind of been a little s**t growing up. Lucky for me, that cheeky and unserious side of myself was never muffled, and in maturing I try to stay true to myself. I feel like this track is about the moments where you want to make life slightly less serious and just have a bit of fun.'
Family Feud with Brooklyn
It comes amid the family's ongoing feud with Brooklyn, 27, who said earlier this year that he did not want to reconcile with his mother and father and claimed his parents and his siblings including Romeo, 23, and Harper, 14, were 'performative'. Cruz struggled to hold back tears while performing a song widely thought to be about his older brother's family estrangement.
The ambitious young musician and his band The Breakers were performing to a full house at London's Courtyard Theatre on his debut tour. But he lost his characteristically cool composure while performing the group's new single, Loneliest Boy – understood to be filled with barely veiled references to his wayward brother's continued absence.
With Romeo and supportive parents watching from the audience, Cruz faltered over the song's plaintive lyrics, prompting band-member Dan Ewins to drape a reassuring arm across his shoulders. Emotions appeared to run high as the tearful singer wiped his eyes with a baggy shirt-sleeve while delivering the track's chorus, which features the telling lyrics, 'Loneliest boy, mama don't talk too much, it's breaking her heart'.
Looking on from their seats at the tiny east London venue, his family members were visibly moved by the performance, with Romeo seen wiping away a tear as he looked up at the stage.
Concert-Goer's Account
One concert-goer told The Mirror: 'At one point during the song, he seemed overcome with emotion as his bandmate put his arm around his shoulder and affectionately ruffled his hair.' Fans have been left convinced that the song is about Brooklyn's widening estrangement from his family.
Additional lyrics read: 'It shows in the small things that you don't do, I guess in the end that it's you, yourself, and you. Tell me how do you live, when you've got nobody to lose? Loneliest boy, place all your bets on him, To find something bad in somebody good, he always does, Loneliest boy, I hope that you're listening, Don't push all your friends away, when we're tryna show you love.'
Elsewhere, the chorus reads: 'So tell me you're scared, and that you need someone to hold. Cause you're in the room but really, does it even show? But, why can't they see that you're a million miles away, They'll never know, when you look so close.'
Brooklyn's Grandfather Tribute
Meanwhile, Brooklyn posted a heartfelt message to his grandfather Anthony Adams on his 80th birthday. The aspiring chef missed out on a family get-together to celebrate the milestone and instead spent the evening with his wife Nicola Peltz amid the bitter family feud. Brooklyn is still in touch with his grandparents after publicly cutting ties with his immediate family in a six-page statement in January.
His mother, Victoria, hosted a huge party for Anthony with husband David and their children, and while Brooklyn didn't attend the bash, he did post a photo with his grandfather on Instagram on Monday and wrote: 'Happy 80th birthday Papa, I love you so much x.' The photo showed Brooklyn and his granddad enjoying a drink together in the sunshine. But Brooklyn decided not to fly over to the UK and instead spent the evening having a glass of wine with Nicola.
Across the pond, the Beckhams were out in force alongside Romeo's girlfriend Kim Turnbull, 24, and Cruz's partner Jackie Apostel, 30. For the party, Victoria looked effortlessly chic in a silky blue floor-length gown, which she accessorised with a gold clutch. Anthony appeared elated at the glamorous party, hugging his daughter before sitting down for a meal, where he was gifted personal cards.
