Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon took to Instagram on Sunday to celebrate her 14th wedding anniversary with wife Christine Marinoni. The 60-year-old actress, best known for playing Miranda Hobbes on the HBO series, shared heartfelt words and photos to mark the occasion.
A Love Story Spanning Decades
'My wife Christine and I have been together for 22 years but today is our 14th wedding anniversary,' Nixon wrote. 'Falling in love with Christine was the best thing I ever did (next to having our children).' The couple began dating in 2004 after Nixon's split from ex-partner Danny Mozes, with whom she shares two sons: Seph Mozes, 29, and Charles Ezekial Mozes, 23. Nixon and Marinoni also have a 15-year-old son, Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni.
Celebrity Well-Wishes
The Manhattan native shared three photos of herself with Marinoni, prompting an outpouring of support from fans and fellow celebrities. Rosie O'Donnell wrote, 'Happy anniversary u 2,' while Nixon's Sex and the City co-star Mario Cantone said, 'Happy Anniversary to both of you!! All my love and to many many more years.' Ilana Glazer added, 'You're brilliant. Sending you both love,' and Uzo Aduba commented, 'Happy Anniversary to you both. Here's to 1,000 years!!'
Waiting for Marriage Equality
Nixon and Marinoni got engaged in 2009 but waited until 2012 to marry, when same-sex marriage was legalized in New York. Last year, Nixon marked the anniversary by calling Marinoni 'the best co-pilot a girl could ask for.' Marinoni, originally from Bainbridge Island, Washington, moved to New York to work as a community organizer and attend Columbia University. She was working in education when she met Nixon in the early 2000s.
Coming Out and Career
Before dating Marinoni, Nixon had not been in a romantic relationship with a woman. She told the Radio Times that Marinoni initially worried about Nixon's reaction to being with a woman. 'When we started seeing each other, Christine kept waiting for the other shoe to drop,' Nixon said. However, after Marinoni met Nixon's mother, she stopped worrying. Nixon also revealed that her former publicist advised her to keep the relationship private, but she eventually replaced him with openly gay publicist Kelly Bush, who encouraged her to publicly confirm the romance.
