Kevin Mathurin, best known for playing vicar Charles Anderson on Emmerdale, has been in a relationship with international DJ Nikki Beatnik since 2011. The couple share a son named Harley, who turned eight in September 2022.
Kevin Mathurin's Role on Emmerdale
Mathurin first appeared on the ITV soap in 2020 as Charles Anderson. Over the years, his character has been involved in major storylines, including a romance with Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker), the death of his son Ethan (Emile John), and the arrival of his meddling mother Claudette (Flo Wilson) in 2023.
Nikki Beatnik's Career
Nikki Beatnik is a producer and DJ who has collaborated with A-list celebrities such as Kelis, Jay-Z, and Kanye West. In a 2016 interview with The Standard, she recalled: "I've met some cool, interesting people. One night Spike Jones hung out with me in the booth, but I didn't say a word to him because I was just too busy DJing. Another time, we went out with Tom Jones and were like, 'This is crazy'. I did parties for Alicia Keys a few times, and she'd have people like Stevie Wonder coming."
Family Life
The couple's son Harley marked his eighth birthday in September 2022. Mathurin posted a heartfelt message on Instagram alongside a photo of Harley dressed as Darth Vader, writing: "Happy Birthday Harley. Can't believe you are 8 years old already. May the force always be with you."
Mathurin, who travels from the family home in South London to Leeds where Emmerdale is filmed, spoke candidly about balancing work and family in a 2023 interview with OK! magazine. He said: "I do feel guilty being away from the family, especially when the schedule is really busy and I am working five days in a week. It breaks my heart when I get a little voice message from my eight-year-old son, Harley, saying he misses me."
He added: "And it's especially hard for Nikki as she is the one juggling all the school runs and after-school activities, but knowing Harley and my 14-year-old daughter, Gracie, are missing their dad. Even if I have had a busy day filming, I will always have so much empathy for Nikki when we catch up on a video call in the evening."
Mathurin also revealed that Nikki would have "killed him" if he hadn't taken the role on Emmerdale because she understands how much it means to him. He noted: "But she also understands what it is like to have a job you love. She has a job she loves too. And thankfully if we are both away with our jobs, we've got the grandparents to help out."
