Foo Fighters' Subtle Liverpool Tribute at Anfield Gig

Foo Fighters made a subtle tribute to Liverpool moments into their first Anfield Stadium show on June 25, 2026. As the band took the stage, red smoke filled the stadium, an arguable nod to the Reds, prompting cheers and applause from the crowd.

Opening Moments

Frontman Dave Grohl addressed the audience, saying: "You think it's hot now, m************, it's going to get hot. Are you ready?" The band then launched into their opening song, All My Life, followed by The Pretender and Times Like These.

Fan Excitement

Fans queued outside Anfield in soaring temperatures, with an amber weather warning issued for Merseyside as temperatures were predicted to reach 35°C. Marissa and Diana Tounshen traveled from Portland and Illinois respectively. Marissa said: "We took an eight hour flight, a two hour train and a one hour and 45 minute taxi to get here today. We’re so excited." Javier Soto came from Granada, saying: "I came [to the city] 15 years ago... This is a really big thing because I’m coming to see the Foo Fighters inside Anfield Stadium."

Band History

This is the first time Foo Fighters have performed at Anfield. However, Dave Grohl previously joined Sir Paul McCartney on stage at Anfield in 2008 during Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture, performing Band On The Run and Back In The USSR. The band was formed by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl after Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994, initially as a solo project before becoming a full band in 1995.
