The iconic 1980s pinup and actress Ione Skye has set the record straight with a series of startling personal revelations in her new tell-all memoir. The London-born star, best known for her role opposite John Cusack in the 1989 romantic classic Say Anything, details intimate encounters with famous former co-stars, offering a raw glimpse behind the Hollywood curtain.
Memoir Revelations: Cusack and Perry Affairs
In Say Everything, published in March of this year, Skye confirms long-rumoured affairs with two of her most famous collaborators. She admits to a romantic liaison with Matthew Perry, describing their encounter as "perfectly pleasant" but distracted. "Neither of us gave it our all," she wrote of the Friends star, who died in October 2023.
More notably, she reveals she slept with her Say Anything co-star John Cusack years after the film's release, following her divorce from Beastie Boys' Adam Horovitz. "I had to get it out of my system," she explained. Cusack reportedly previewed the memoir and responded via text, quipping, "You made the experience sound so meh! It wasn't 'meh' for me."
A Career Remembered: From River's Edge to La Brea
Skye's career, which made her a defining face of late-80s cinema, included standout roles beyond her most famous film. She starred with Keanu Reeves in 1986's River's Edge and shared the screen with River Phoenix in 1988's A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon, whom she recalled having a youthful crush on. Her filmography also includes Wayne's World, Zodiac, and recent TV work in Arrested Development and La Brea.
Despite her enduring profile, she is a rare sight on the red carpet. She made a striking appearance on Saturday at the Los Angeles premiere of Anaconda at The United Theater on Broadway, wearing a black-and-red gown.
Personal Life and Family Support
The memoir delves deeply into her personal life, particularly her whirlwind romance and 1992 marriage to Beastie Boys' Adam Horovitz. The couple divorced in 2000, and Horovitz, whom she consulted for the book, later married Bikini Kill singer Kathleen Hanna.
Skye, now married for 15 years to Australian musician Ben Lee, says her current husband supported the memoir without hesitation. The couple have a 16-year-old daughter, Goldie, and Skye is also mother to a 25-year-old daughter, Kate, from a previous relationship. Reflecting on her candid writing, Skye stands by her portrayal, stating the real chemistry with co-stars was in "stimulating each other's minds, not sleeping together!"
