Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has opened up about the birth of his first child with his wife, Hanni Treweek, revealing their baby girl was born at home two weeks after her due date. The actor, best known for playing David Platt on the ITV soap, shared details on the podcast On the Sofa with former co-star Colson Smith.
Baby Arrival and Gender Surprise
Jack and Hanni announced their daughter's arrival on Instagram on June 26, 2026, with the post reading: 'Constance Ita Shepherd. Our beautiful baby girl has arrived, born peacefully at home, surrounded by love.' The couple had not discovered the baby's gender before birth. Jack described the moment he announced the sex: 'It was up to me to say, "And it's a thing..." Well, I got baby out. It was in a pool. We had a water birth.' He added that everyone in the room assumed it was a boy, but he declared, 'No, it's a girl!'
Homebirth During Heatwave
Jack explained that despite being two weeks overdue, they opted for a homebirth to avoid induction. 'We didn't want to go down the induced path,' he said. The birth occurred during the record-breaking UK heatwave. Hanni began slow labour on Sunday and gave birth on Friday at 5:47 am. Jack praised his wife's strength: 'Hanni's all good. Yeah, she did really well. No pain relief. No gas and air. She didn't have anything... She'd done hypno birth, she'd done all that. She'd done exercises and whatnot. She was fully on it!'
Meaning Behind the Name
Jack revealed that the name Constance holds special significance: 'Constance was the first perfume that I bought Hanni.' He noted that the common nickname is Connie but prefers to call their daughter Constance. The couple's baby girl is Jack's fourth child; he also has Nyla Rae and Ruben with ex-girlfriend Lauren Shippey, and son Greyson with former partner Sammy Milewski.
