Kate Beckinsale made a bold fashion statement during a shopping trip in Los Angeles, showcasing her signature daring style. The 52-year-old actress was photographed leaving little to the imagination in a sheer white dress, revealing a black bra and spotted tights underneath.
A Daring Fashion Moment in LA
The Underworld star was seen at the John Varvatos store in LA, looking in good spirits during an afternoon spree. She elevated her striking ensemble with a pair of towering black platform knee-high boots and carried a coordinated handbag. Kate styled her long hair in a voluminous high ponytail and accessorised with layered necklaces and chunky gold cross earrings, completing the look with a pair of chunky square sunglasses.
An Emotional Tribute Amid Personal Grief
This public appearance follows a period of profound personal loss for the actress. Kate's mother, Judy Loe, passed away at the age of 78 on July 15. Kate revealed the devastating news on Instagram this summer, sharing that her mother had died in her arms after what she described as 'immeasurable suffering'. She admitted to being 'paralysed' with grief at the time.
While a cause of death was not officially confirmed, Kate had previously disclosed that her mother had been battling stage four cancer for the last two years. In a poignant tribute last month, Kate unveiled a new tattoo on her arm—a sketch of her mother from 1971. She had the inking done by renowned artist Dr Woo, placing it below an existing tattoo that reads 'Fatherless sc*m', a tribute to her late father and stepfather referencing a David Bowie song.
A Celebration of Life and Enduring Heartache
In October, Kate shared poignant images from her mother's funeral, which was held at Chiswick House. Honouring her mother's wishes, attendees did not wear black, and the event was intended as a celebration of her life. Kate was joined by her 26-year-old daughter, Lily, and her ex-partner, Michael Sheen, who attended to offer support.
In a lengthy and emotional caption accompanying the funeral photos, Kate expressed her ongoing devastation. She wrote about still feeling 'blindsided' and heartbreakingly admitted she often reaches for her phone to call her mother before realising no one will answer. She described Judy as 'the compass of my life' and 'the love of my life'.
Judy's death came just 18 months after the passing of her second husband and Kate's stepfather, Roy, in January 2024. Roy had been hospitalised after a massive stroke while battling two forms of cancer. Tragically, Judy was first widowed in 1979 when Kate's father, actor Richard Beckinsale, died suddenly of a heart attack at age 31, when Kate was just five years old.
Kate has spoken openly about the trauma of discovering her father's body as a child, a pain that was 'reactivated' by the loss of her stepfather. Despite her grief, Kate's recent LA outing shows her navigating life in the public eye while carrying the weight of these significant personal losses.
