Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were married on Friday at Madison Square Garden in New York City, with an estimated 1,200 guests in attendance. Among the attendees were numerous NFL players, but one notable absence was controversial Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, who reportedly did not receive an invitation.
Wedding Guest List Excludes Butker
According to the Daily Mail, Kelce extended invitations to nearly the entire Chiefs roster, but Butker was left out. Butker has been a teammate of Kelce since 2017, but his relationship with the team has been strained since a 2024 commencement speech at Benedictine College, where he made remarks widely criticized as misogynistic.
Other NFL players spotted at the wedding included Kareem Hunt, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Cooper Kupp, and George Kittle. Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid are also believed to have been present.
Butker's Controversial Speech
In his May 2024 address at Benedictine College, Butker said: "I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you. Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world." He added that his wife, Isabelle, believed her life "truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother."
Kelce publicly disagreed with Butker's views on a subsequent episode of his podcast. "When it comes down to his views and what he said at the Saint Benedict's commencement speech, those are his. I can't say I agree with the majority of it or just about any of it outside of just him loving his family and his kids," Kelce said.
Brothers United at the Ceremony
Travis's brother, Jason Kelce, served as best man at the wedding, which featured no additional groomsmen. Travis had previously been a groomsman at Patrick Mahomes' wedding in 2019. Jason also commented on Butker's speech, saying: "Make no mistake about it, the things he said in the commencement speech are not things that I align myself with. But he's giving a commencement speech at a Catholic university, and shocker, it ended up being a very religious speech."
Celebrity Guests and Relationship Timeline
The wedding drew a host of celebrities, including Adam Sandler, Hugh Grant, and Jason Sudeikis, as well as several of Swift's fellow musicians. Kelce and Swift began their highly publicized relationship in 2023, with Swift attending numerous Chiefs games throughout the NFL season.
