Former Atomic Kitten star Kerry Katona has made a startling confession, revealing she would be 'devastated' if any of her five children decided to join the adult subscription platform OnlyFans. This admission comes despite the fact that the 45-year-old media personality has earned millions on the site herself and plans to continue working there well into retirement.
A Mother's Candid Confession
Katona opened up about her complex feelings in her latest column for New! Magazine, where she also commented on the ongoing estrangement between former Emmerdale actress Sammy Winward and her pregnant daughter, Mia. The family rift began two years ago when Mia, now expecting her first child, chose to create content on OnlyFans, a platform where top creators can reportedly make thousands of pounds weekly.
While discussing the painful fallout, Kerry took a firm stance. 'I don’t think you should fallout with your child because they’re doing OnlyFans, life is too short,' she wrote. She stressed that Mia had done nothing illegal and noted that 'everyone' seems to be joining the platform nowadays.
Hypocrisy or Pragmatism?
However, Katona was strikingly honest about her own potential double standard as a parent. 'If one of my children were to do OnlyFans I’d be devastated but I’d never not talk to them,' she confessed. She argued there is little difference between the content on OnlyFans and the glamour modelling many soap stars, including Sammy Winward herself, once did for magazines like FHM.
Sammy, 40, who posed for FHM during her time on the popular ITV soap and was once voted onto FHM's Sexiest Women list, reacted furiously to her daughter's career choice. Mia has since quit the platform but remains estranged from both parents.
A Lucrative Lifeline and Future Plans
Kerry's comments follow her recent revelations about her own highly successful OnlyFans career. She joined the site in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic and has previously claimed she earned a staggering £175,000 in her first month alone. She has since made millions.
In her OK! Magazine column last month, Katona revealed she has no intention of stopping, even as she approaches retirement age. She teased that a well-known celebrity nearing 70 is considering signing up. The platform proved a financial lifeline for Katona after she faced severe money troubles.
She declared bankruptcy in 2008 after failing to pay an £82,000 tax bill, losing her £1.25 million home, and has filed for bankruptcy multiple times since. She told Paul C. Brunson's podcast, We Need To Talk, in September that the income from OnlyFans was 'too much money to turn down.'
Ultimately, Kerry Katona's story highlights the modern conflict between lucrative digital opportunities, personal legacy, and the age-old anxieties of parenthood.
