Liam Gallagher Chuffed with Biblical Support for England World Cup Song
Liam Gallagher Loves Biblical Wonderwall as England Anthem

Liam Gallagher has expressed his delight over Oasis's classic track Wonderwall becoming the unofficial England World Cup song, claiming he sounds 'Biblical' on the recording. The former Oasis frontman responded to a surge in streams and fan renditions at matches, including emotional singalongs with England players.

Streaming Surge During World Cup

Spotify reported a 50 per cent increase in streams of Wonderwall in the UK during the World Cup, as England fans adopted the 1995 hit as their terrace anthem. The song has been heard at games, including after the disappointing draw with Ghana, with players like Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon joining in.

Spotify's statement noted: 'The 1995 classic has experienced a resurgence, with a spike in listening of 50% in the UK – a huge lift considering the existing streams and fanbase for such an iconic and enduring song.'

Liam's Response

Liam took to X to react, writing: 'And rightly so it’s a f****** classic and I sound BIBLICAL on it.' When a fan cynically asked who gets the royalties from the streaming boost, Liam quipped: 'Harry Krishna.'

His brother Noel Gallagher also backed the anthem, telling The Sun: 'Wonderwall belongs to the people, and it was a magical moment between the people and the player. Best of luck to everyone who’s made the trip out there.'

Future Oasis Shows

Oasis are expected to announce further live shows for 2027, including rumoured gigs in Manchester, Glasgow, and Rome. The free advertising from the World Cup anthem status is unlikely to harm ticket sales.
