Louis Tomlinson has declared he will not appear on BBC Breakfast again after being questioned about the deaths of his mother and sister during a promotional interview. The former One Direction singer accused hosts Dan Walker and Louise Minchin of 'proper going in' on him, particularly regarding his grief.
Tomlinson, 28, was on the programme to promote his debut solo album Walls. He was asked about the loss of his mother Johannah, who died of cancer in 2016, and his sister Felicite, who died of an accidental drug overdose last year. The singer later tweeted: 'Defo wont be going on there again.'
In a series of exchanges on Twitter, Tomlinson told Walker: 'I was upset that you continued to ask me about my grief. It goes without saying how hard it is to lose both people so close to me. The least I ask is that you respect my decision of not wanting to be asked in interviews about something so painfull.' He added that while he has a 'creative outlet' in his music, that does not give interviewers 'the right to talk about it for gossip purposes.'
Walker responded: 'We were asking you about the song on your new album about your mum. We know it's painful which is why we didn't dwell on it. No intention to upset you or be 'gossipy' about it at all.' A BBC spokesperson said: 'We wanted to cover all aspects of Louis's life that have influenced his new album and feel the questioning was fair.'
During the interview, Tomlinson was also asked about his reported feud with former bandmate Zayn Malik, to which he replied he was 'just not ready to have that conversation yet.' He described a potential One Direction reunion as 'inevitable' and said the band would be 'stupid' not to reunite.
