Romeo Beckham Stars in French Tennis Romance 'Forty Love'

Romeo Beckham, the 23-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham, is pivoting from modelling to acting with his debut in the French film Forty Love. He plays a charismatic tennis star in this “sensual coming-of-age story” set in the world of professional tennis.

The film centres on Sacha Gallo, a tennis superstar training with his father to win a major trophy in Paris. Romeo portrays Sacha’s charismatic new rival, who “challenges everything Sacha thought he understood about competition, ambition and himself.” The synopsis describes the rivalry as a force “more dangerous than anything he has encountered on the court” — love.

First Look and Cast

Romeo stars alongside Paul Kircher (The Animal Kingdom), Guillaume Canet (Sink or Swim), and Benjamin Voisin (The Stranger). In a first-look image, Romeo is seen posing intensely with Kircher. The film is directed by renowned fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti in his directorial debut.

Fans have reacted enthusiastically on social media. One wrote: “Romeo picking a debut where the rival becomes the love interest is bold casting.” Another commented: “Watching this to see if Romeo can sell the moment the match turns personal.”

Production Details

Forty Love is produced by Hugo Sélignac and Paco de Bary at Chi-Fou-Mi Productions, a Mediawan company, and co-produced by Studiocanal and Manna Studios. Sélignac described the film as “sensual, romantic and deeply moving romantic fable and coming-of-age story” about the “demands of high-level sport, and everything that lies beneath the surface … led by outstanding performances.” He added that he has “long admired [Carlotti’s] work as a photographer,” noting “a rare tenderness, melancholy and strength in his images.”

Beckham Family Tensions

Romeo’s acting debut comes amid a reported feud with his older brother Brooklyn. Brooklyn distanced himself from his family in a January statement, accusing his parents of being “controlling” and trying to “endlessly ruin” his marriage to Nicola Peltz. Romeo appeared to signal his stance by liking an Instagram post that called Nicola “the problem.” The video featured an influencer claiming that Victoria and David were “trying to rescue their son” and that Nicola “forced him to make that statement.”

Romeo attended the Met Gala in May as a Burberry ambassador, narrowly avoiding a run-in with Brooklyn, who did not attend. Brooklyn has stated he has no intention of reconciling, claiming his parents “controlled him for most of his life.”
