Beloved television presenter Sarah Greene has shared a poignant belief that her late husband, Mike Smith, played a role in orchestrating her new romance from beyond the grave. The 68-year-old star, famed for her work on Blue Peter and Saturday Superstore, is convinced Smith guided her towards one of his oldest friends.
A Love Story Orchestrated from Afar
Greene was married to radio and TV host Mike Smith from 1989 until his tragic death in 2014 at age 59, following complications from heart surgery. In 2022, she opened up about her relationship with former British touring car champion Robb Gravett, a dear friend of Mike's.
Speaking on the My Time Capsule podcast, Greene disclosed her conviction. "I sort of know Mike is pulling so many strings in my life," she said. She explained that Gravett had been leaving messages on her answering machine, which she initially interpreted as kindness. A clarifying message from a mutual friend made her realise his true intentions were romantic.
"Then I got a message almost saying, 'For God's sake, Greeno, Robb is trying to make contact with you because he actually wants to take you out, not because he's kind,'" Greene recalled. The pair, first photographed together in 2018, then began a new chapter. "I'm sure, and Robb is very sure too, because it's a very strange situation," she added.
Overcoming Initial Doubts
Greene admitted to initial worries about entering a relationship within her late husband's close circle. She was particularly concerned about the many pictures of Mike in her home. "I remember being terribly worried and saying to this dear man who I'd known for all these years, 'Isn't it strange coming into the house and seeing all these pictures everywhere of Mike?'" she shared.
Gravett's response provided profound comfort and cemented their unique bond. "He said, 'No, no, it's not strange. It'd be strange if they weren't there. And remember, I love him too,'" Greene revealed.
