Sophie Ellis-Bextor, the pop icon behind the viral hit 'Murder on the Dancefloor', has been announced as the opening act for The Human League at their upcoming outdoor show in Newcastle. The 80s legends will headline the Park Series at Exhibition Park on Sunday, August 30, with tickets already snapped up by fans.
Park Series Returns to Newcastle
The Park Series, which brought Mercury Prize and Brit-nominated Fontaines DC to Exhibition Park last year, returns this summer with two major acts. McFly will perform on Friday, August 28, followed by The Human League on Sunday, August 30. The addition of Sophie Ellis-Bextor as support has added to the excitement.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Resurgence
Sophie Ellis-Bextor first rose to fame in August 2000 when her collaboration with Spiller, 'Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)', beat Victoria Beckham's 'Out of Your Mind' to number one. She followed up with solo hits like 'Take Me Home' and the iconic 'Murder on the Dancefloor'. The latter enjoyed a massive resurgence in 2024 after being featured in the film Saltburn, peaking at number 2 in the UK and charting in the US for the first time.
Her other hits include 'Get Over You', 'Catch You', 'Heartbreak (Make Me a Dancer)', and 'Freedom of the Night'. Known as the 'Kitchen Disco diva', she has a dedicated fanbase.
