A woman who was devastated to miss out on a hand-sewn quilt at a charity raffle was astonished when the winner gifted it to her, serving as a daily reminder of human kindness.
The Quilt and the Raffle
The quilt, made by a local quilting maestro in a pattern known as 'the drunkard's path', featured vibrant shades of purple and green. It was being raffled at a fundraiser to rebuild a school in Nepal after the 2015 earthquake. The woman bought 10 tickets, hoping to win, while her husband Sam also bought 10 tickets but declared he would auction it back to raise extra money if he won.
An Unexpected Turn
When Sam won, he immediately auctioned the quilt. A woman bid furiously and secured the final bid. To the author's surprise, the winner walked over and handed the quilt to her, saying, 'I'm giving your wife this quilt.' The author was moved to tears and later sent a heartfelt thank-you card.
A Daily Reminder
The quilt now sits on the couple's bed, a daily reminder of the goodness in the world. The author encourages readers to share their own stories of kindness from strangers.
